Carpet and counters and shelves, oh my!
The library has been undergoing major changes this past summer, taking advantage of the quieter time to entertain the cacophony of hammers and saws, drills and sanders, grinders and vacuums. Several work crews installed new carpet and compact shelving on the Lower Level; renovated and expanded the Archives and Special Collections Department to include a new reading room available for the study of the Thomas Daschle collection on the Upper Level (stay tuned for more); and the installation of a new fire alarm system throughout this 1977 building.
Not only is the library changing physically, it is also changing virtually. Beginning September 1, 2010, South Dakota State University retires its tired servers as all University colleges and departments move to the new server. You will find the library has a new virtual home at http://www.sdstate.edu/library/. What hasn’t changed is our committment to University students, faculty, and staff. This is your library and we welcome you to an exciting new semester and new academic year. Please don’t hesitate to contact us with all your information needs and enjoy new spaces and places in the library.

Briggs Library’s Web site has a new look. We have the same great resources available online, but we are changing things around a bit to fit in with SDSU’s Web redesign.
A good place to begin your research is at the library’s index page at http://www.sdstate.edu/library/index.cfm. From this page click on Find Library Resources to find links to the library’s catalog, journals list, databases, etc. Click on Research Assistance to find links to tutorials, copyright help, and course guides. Do a little exploring and you’ll find all your favorite library resources—just rearranged a bit.
Hate remembering URL’s? You can connect to the library’s index page from SDSU’s homepage in three clicks. Here’s the Path: Academics, Hilton M. Briggs Library (in the left pane), Hilton M. Briggs Library (in the right, yellow pane).
Please contact a librarian if you have any questions. Speak to us in person at the Service Desk or by phone at 605-688-5107. Contact us by e-mail by clicking on the Email Us link found throughout the Web site. To chat with a librarian enter your question in our Meebo badge found on the Ask Us and Research Assistance pages.

The library catalog has a new look and an easier way to search for books. On August 18 the new search interface, AquaBrowser, went live.
To update your links use: http://searchsdln.aquabrowser.com/?c_profile=SDB.
Refining a search by author, data range, and topic is easy with the new interface. AquaBrowser also gives help with spelling and has a word cloud feature to improve searching. A link to the old catalog is available on the black bar at the top, just click on “traditional catalog”. If you have any questions or problems contact us:

The South Dakota Humanities Council has a display in the case outside the Information Services office promoting the Festival of Books, which is being held in Sioux Falls this year, September 24th – 26th. They are asking people to pre-register this year, which is free and enters you into a drawing for numerous prizes…, the grand prize being a trip to Las Vegas for 2.
As a special ‘thank you’ for letting them set up their display here in our library, they are offering a number of books that will be given away only to those of us that pre-register in the library. Our patrons are encouraged to register.
The books they are offering are in the case and they may add more later! Registration forms and a box to put them in are sitting by the case. Fill one out and maybe you will win!!
